RIOJA REVISITED 2011

14-Oct-11 - Yes, I've been away. Well, I've been head down finishing the update to THE WINES OF RIOJA, and have just uploaded it to Amazon, so it should be on the site and available to buy from Monday 17-Oct-11 (to you, a fiver - well, £5.75 inc. VAT). Here is the description:

The original book (The Wines of Rioja) has been reissued by Octopus Books as an e-book, also available from Amazon. The purpose of this supplement is (a) to correct some errors which crept into the original, and (b) to bring the reader up to date with changes in the region, and also to add on new bodega profiles based on visits I have made since 2004. It is intended to be read alongside the original book – in other words it will be useful only if you have the original hardback or have already downloaded the e-book. I wrote to bodegas with a questionnaire requesting updated information and samples, as well as visiting the region four times during 2011, mainly to go to bodegas that were not in the original book. I have also been able to include current vintages and around 500 tasting notes, which I couldn't do in the original book. The directory includes entries on more than 90 bodegas, of which approximately half returned the questionnaire, and the other half are new entries. The supplement amounts to just over 50,000 words - which is about half the length of the original book. It also includes a listing of my top wines (19/20 and higher) - a total of 64 altogether.
