BODIONCILLO - A MYSTERY SOLVED
01-Sep-11 - I mentioned in an earlier post (30-Jun-11) that I had received samples of Bodioncillo Old-Vines Tempranillo which I raved about but couldn't identify as there was no sticker on the bottle. I have just received an e-mail from the bodega, who read my comments on this blog. Apparently they included a covering letter with the bottles, but paperwork and bottles got separated at an early stage, and by the time the wine shuttled to the top of my tasting list the letter had been lost.
I can, however, reveal that the wine, which comes from Extremadura, is made by Dr José Luis Arias Jiménez. He writes: "My job is a doctor of medicine specialising in internal medicine, but my passion is wine. I have a small vineyard in Spain in a village in Extremadura (Fuente de Cantos) and make the wine using traditional Tempranillo in an artisanal style, aged in American oak. My production is small - 4,000-7,000 bottles per year."
He's trying to get an importer interested in bringing it into the UK. If and when he succeeds, I'll let you know. Indeed, if you are an importer and would like his contact details, please let me know: john@johnradford.com.
